Gordon Godson, Chairman of Mulesing Committee (LCA)

Reduced blood loss

"I think the most significant benefit is of course that  blood [loss] is virtually zero, you can't see any on the ground or running down their legs, which is great for stopping the bleeding."

We've come a long way

"We have the welfare groups that are kicking up about mulesing – that it is a very unpleasant thing to do to our lambs. The industry is now proving by having training and accreditation and now Tri-Solfen we've come a long way in two years. We are getting the job done properly and getting the lamb looked after as soon it is mulesed."

Mothering up

"I think the major benefit in my opinion is the mothering up. It's just not straight away but two or three hours later when the pain relief is still very prominent – the lamb bonds to its mother and doesn't walk away and leave their mother, which was a problem before Tri-Solfen."
